Man taken to hospital after two vehicle crash on Menaul NE

A man was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital with possible brain damage after he collided with large cargo box truck on Menaul NE and the northbound I-25 frontage road around 9 p.m., police spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

Police say it appears the man, who was driving a sedan, was driving north on the frontage road when he drove through the red light signal and was struck by the cargo box truck.

The man was taken to UNMH and is undergoing a CAT scan. The APD Fatal Team has been called out to investigate the crash due to possible brain damage to the driver of the sedan, Gibbs said.

Menaul NE and the northbound frontage road are currently closed as a result of the investigation.

The collision also caused damage to the traffic light control box. Traffic lights at the intersection are out and are expected to be fixed Friday morning when PNM and Traffic Engineering can resolve the issue, Gibbs said.
