Beware of Bogus Advocacy

I’ve received a list of companies that supposedly have not paid New Mexico corporate income taxes. The list is designed to provoke people into contacting the governor to urge her to sign Senate Bill 9. The list does include any attribution.

I checked with the Tax Research Institute and was told that corporate tax filings are like personal tax filings: completely confidential. It is highly unlikely that anyone can come up with an accurate list of corporations that have filed no New Mexico income taxes. The list is almost without question a fabrication.

Senate Bill 9 would require big box stores to calculate their New Mexico income taxes as a share of their total corporate profits.
