A fire that started in a Las Cruces trailer house displaced a family of four and spread to a tire pile in a construction yard, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.
The fire was called in around noon on Tuesday from the trailer in the 3500 block of West Picacho, near Mesilla Valley Transportation Co., the Sun-News said. The couple and their two children, ages 5 months and 18 months, were displaced but unharmed.
The fire was under control at 3 p.m., but it had spread to a large pile of tree strumps and tires in the southeast corner of the McNutt Construction yard. Thick, black smoke could be seen for miles for several hours.
A second trailer house was affected by the blaze, but flames were quickly extinguished, preventing serious damage, the Sun-New said.
Fire fighters continued battling the fire in the afternoon, working to protect nearby homes and structures.
