Marty Chavez Makes Cameo Appearance in Blackout Theatre’s Latest Ode to Albuquerque

Eeee! Is that former Albuquerque Mayor Marty Chavez in Blackout Theatre’s latest take on life in ‘Burque? Why, yes it is.

The theatre, which saw its first two “Sh*t Burqueños Say” videos go viral on YouTube with hundreds of thousands of hits, is back at it — this time for a visit to a Lobos game at the Pit.  As my colleague Leslie Linthicum put it in a column last month, the videos are “a little love letter to the linguistic oddities of native Albuquerqueans, although many of (their) featured phrases and pronunciations will sound familiar to people from Santa Fe or Clovis or Raton or Socorro.”

Chavez, who was name-checked in one of the earlier videos, makes a cameo in the newest one, which hit the Web today.

The Democratic former mayor is making a run for Congress in New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District. In the new video, he’s looking the part of a Washington guy with his cell phone pressed to his ear as he bumps into Lynette, the star of the videos, outside The Pit.

Chavez’s first appearance happens at the one-minute mark, and then again after the credits. Check out Blackout’s lastest video (and laugh) here.
