SANTA FE — A federal agency says exports of New Mexico products grew by nearly 36 percent last year.
The Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration reports that New Mexico was among 26 states that exceeded the national average of 16 percent growth in merchandise exports in 2011.
The value of New Mexico goods sold to other countries reached $2.1 billion last year, up from $1.5 billion in 2010.
Mexico was the state’s largest export market, accounting for 22 percent or $464 million of sales. Other top markets were Israel, $442 million; Canada, $349 million and China, $90 million.
Computers and electronic products accounted for $879 million of New Mexico’s exports of goods. That was followed by food products at $182 million.
U.S. merchandise exports totaled nearly $1.5 trillion last year.
