Santa Fe County Appoints New Fire Chief

Officials announced Wednesday that David Sperling, the county’s interim Fire Chief, has been formally hired to head the Fire Department.

Sperling was interim chief for about a year. Prior to that he served as the county’s deputy Fire Chief and Fire Marshall..

Sperling has more than 27 years of experience in the Public Safety field, including 15 years leading various fire departments, according to a county press release. From 2002 to 2006, Sperling was Fire Chief at the city of Santa Fe.

“In addition, Sperling has a unique qualification, which includes the ability to run a Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department that is comprised of both paid and volunteer fire fighters,” the release said.
