Girl Thrown From Vehicle in Rio Rancho Crash

Rio Rancho police are investigating a crash that left an 8-year-old girl with serious injuries after she was ejected from a vehicle that she had been riding in this morning.

Police were called out just before 8:15 a.m. to King Boulevard, between 32nd Avenue and Colmor Meadows regarding a single vehicle rollover accident, according to Rio Rancho police Sgt. Nicholas Onken.

Upon arrival, police found an 8-year-old girl who had been thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries. The female driver, who is in her late 40s, also sustained serious injuries. A medical helicopter was called out to the scene to take them to a local hospital.

Two other passengers, a 4-year-old girl and a man, who is in his late 40s, also were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Neither received major injuries in the crash, Onken said in an e-mail.

King Boulevard was closed for two hours while police conducted a crash investigation.

It appears that speed was a factor in the crash, according to Onken.

“The investigation is in its very early stages and little else is definitively known at this time,” Onken said in the e-mail.
