The Obama for America campaign is rolling out a new video today that stars an Albuquerque woman who praises the sweeping health care legislation the president signed into law in 2010.
The video features Judy Smith and her Albuquerque physician, Mike Lewiecki, as well as some pretty nice views of the Sandia foothills. The video focuses on a provision in the new law that provides patients with some free preventative procedures, like mammograms. Smith says that an early, free mammogram turned up a small tumor that her doctors quickly eradicated.
“My life has been saved by the Affordable Care Act,” Smith says.
The video ends with the claim that “Change is health care in your hands.”
Obama’s campaign folks told me today they sent their best videographers to New Mexico to shoot the video – yet another early indication that New Mexico will be an important presidential battleground this year.
Republicans, of course, claim that the Affordable Care Act is driving up costs and expanding government.
The issue will play big in New Mexico and across the country in the upcoming elections.
