Update: Well, all that talking didn’t change anybody’s mind.
Albuquerque city councilors fell one vote short of the seven they needed to immediately authorize bonds to help fund the Paseo del Norte interchange. The council voted 6-3 in favor, meaning the bond authorization won’t take effect unless voters approve during an election.
I’ll have more in tomorrow’s paper, of course.
The three Albuquerque city councilors holding out against the Paseo bond authorization are showing no signs of changing their minds.
About 90 minutes into tonight’s special City Council meeting, councilors Debbie O’Malley, Rey Garduno and Isaac Benton are holding firm in the desire to send it to voters.
O’Malley in particular has blasted the mayoral administration’s handling of the Paseo issue.
About 25 people spoke during the public-comment portion of the meeting, with about two-thirds of the speakers in favor of immediately authorizing the bonds. There are about 80 to 90 people in the audience altogether, nowhere near the chambers’ 241-person capacity.
“I don’t think anything is going to change as far as votes,” Council President Trudy Jones said, urging councilors to wrap up their comments.
