Five Juarez police officers, including a police commander, were shot and killed at a party Wednesday night — the deadliest attack on police officers in the troubled city so far this year, the El Paso Times reported.
Officials said gunmen burst into a party around 8:15 p.m. and gunned down the officers, killing the five and wounding two others, the Times said.
“They are working right now in an operation in the entire city to find those responsible,” Juarez police spokesman Adrian Sanchez Contreras told the Times.
None of the victims’ identities were released Wednesday night.
The incident was said to be the single deadliest attack on law enforcement since a 2010 car bomb explosion in downtown Juarez, a spokesman told the Times.
About 18 officers have been killed in Juarez so far this year, and 65 police officers have been slain since October 2010, the Times said.
