Local kids do well in MathCounts
Dylan Hendrickson of Albuquerque Academy took first place in the recent State MathCounts individual competition, while Randy Zhang of Desert Ridge Middle School took first place in the countdown round.
The first place team was Desert Ridge Middle School in Albuquerque.
MathCounts is a national enrichment program that promotes middle school mathematics.
Geography champ heading to D.C.
Gabriel Cuneo, a sixth-grader at Shepherd Lutheran school in Albuquerque, was the first-place winner in the state geography bee, held Friday in Santa Fe. Cuneo will compete in the national bee in Washington, D.C., in May.
Coming in second was Colin Peña, a seventh-grader at Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School in Albuquerque, and in third place was Casey Campbell, an eighth-grader at Mountain View Middle School in Alamogordo.

Charter school to hold open house
The International School at Mesa del Sol, 2660 Eastman Crossing SE, will hold an open house for prospective students and their families from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13 and 16.
To schedule a one-hour tour, call 505-508-3295. Visitors will get to see classes and ask questions about the curriculum. Parents of current students will talk about their experience at the kindergarten through eighth grade state charter school.
