Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., will be in Las Cruces tomorrow (Wednesday) to chair a congressional field hearing on improving environmental quality along the border.
Udall’s office said the hearing will “highlight the unique environmental challenges the border area faces, bringing together local, state, federal, and bi-national leaders working on the issue.”
The hearing of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, of which Udall is a member, is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the council chambers at Las Cruces City Hall.
The hearing will evaluate Border 2012, an environmental improvement and health protection program in the border region, which emphasizes the continuing need for water infrastructure in the border region.
Witnesses will include Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 Administrator, Al Armendariz, as well as representatives from the Border Environmental Cooperation Commission, North American Development Bank, New Mexico Environment Department, Dona Ana Countyand Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments.
