AG’s Campaign Debt Lingers

SANTA FE (AP) — Attorney General Gary King has made a small dent in retiring debts from his 2010 re-election campaign.

King’s campaign reported Monday that it made loan repayments to King of $6,000 last month. The campaign still owes $242,000 for personal loans from King, a Democrat who is term limited and can’t seek re-election to another four-year term.

King raised almost $53,000 in the past six months, but his campaign spent nearly $59,000. Almost $3 of every $5 spent went for fundraising fees.

King received $13,500 from four partners of a New York law firm that has represented New Mexico pension and investment agencies in securities lawsuits.

Ruidoso Downs horse track and casino owner R.D. Hubbard contributed $5,000.

King’s campaign had cash-on-hand of about $800 as of last week.
