County Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham Announces Incentives for New Recycling Facility
Project to Create 35 Permanent Jobs, 135 Construction Jobs
Bernalillo County – Bernalillo County Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham announced yesterday an economic incentive that would help a new recycling facility break ground and create 135 construction jobs and 35 permanent jobs.
The County Commission last evening approved an industrial revenue bond application of up to $16 million on behalf of Friedman Recycling of Albuquerque, LLC, which would allow the County to abate certain taxes. Friedman Recycling has entered into a 12-year contract with the City of Albuquerque to process all of its recyclables. Taxpayers will not pay for the new facility. The bonds will be acquired by investors to fund the project. The financing will be used to acquire land, build, and equip the new 70,000 square foot facility. The new project will be located at 5049 Edith Blvd. N.E.
“We are creating jobs and fighting to get our economy going in the right direction,” Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham said. “Our partnership with Friedman Recycling will also help our efforts to protect our environment and preserve our natural resources in Bernalillo County.”
The industrial revenue bond application introduced last evening will be considered for 30 days while the commission solicits public comment. The final vote on this application is tentatively scheduled for May 8.
The industrial revenue bond incentive is one of many economic development tools available to Bernalillo County to help grow the local economy. For example, the commission recently approved an industrial revenue bond for a Lowe’s customer support center on Jefferson Blvd. N.E. which created numerous jobs and the county’s economic development department has helped many small businesses secure loans to become more successful.
