The Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents on Tuesday approved a 4.9 percent increase in tuition and fees at its Portales campus and a 4 percent increase in housing costs, the Portales News-Tribune reported.
Undergraduate tuition will increase by 3.01 percent a semester for on-campus residents and 1.01 percent for off-campus residents, while graduate tuition will increase 3.01 percent for on-campus residents and 2.54 percent for off-campus residents, the News-Tribune said.
“This increase will still enable us to be one of the lowest-priced schools in the Southwest,” said ENMU President Steven Gamble, adding that ENMU has the fifth-lowest tuition and fees in the region.
Gamble said the increase, which has gone up every year, is the lowest increase in his 11 years at the school — the largest being more than 9 percent seven years ago, the News-Tribune said.
Tuition and fees also will go up for the 2012-13 school year at ENMU’s Roswell and Ruidoso campuses, the paper reported.
ENM-Roswell in-district tuition will go up 2.51 percent and out-of-district tuition will increase 3.35 percent, while ENMU-Ruidoso tuition will rise 5 percent, the News-Tribune said.
