Nibbles: Old Town Pizza Parlor

I ordered the Spinach Cannelloni ($8.50), which was a meal in itself. Spinach and two cheeses – ricotta and mozzarella – were stuffed inside the rolls of pasta and bathed in a marinara sauce that was heated with a third cheese, provolone. The dish came with two slices of garlic bread.

Cannelloni is one of my favorite pasta dishes, right up there with lasagna and ravioli, and the Old Town Pizza Parlor’s cannelloni was an endorsement of that sentiment.

Not only was the cannelloni filling, it was also quite delicious. When the dish was served it was not so hot that I couldn’t begin eating it immediately. So I ate and ate and ate. I occasionally took a break to come up for air and engage my lunch partner, Pete, in a few words of conversation.

Old Town Pizza Parlor
LOCATION: 108 Rio Grande NW (in Old Town), 999-1949
HOURS: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, noon-9 p.m. Saturdays, noon-8 p.m. Sundays

For his meal, Pete got the large Greek salad ($7.50), which he said he enjoyed. The salad bowl was piled high with greens, kalamata olives, pepperoncini, roma tomatoes, cucumbers and feta cheese. The feta, according to the menu, was made in Tucumcari.
