APD Says Mom Shoplifted With 3 Kids

An Albuquerque woman is facing charges after police said she took her three children on a shoplifting binge then used her infant as a shield to get away from security.

Police said Nicole Valenzuela was arrested Wednesday for shoplifting at an Albuquerque Target last week. Police said surveillance video caught her and another woman, Michelle Gordon, trying to steal $300 worth of health and beauty products.

According to a video, when security guard confronted the two women outside of the store, Gordon was restrained on the ground but Valenzuela swung a carrier with her baby inside at security and escaped with her children.

Valenzuela was later arrested at her home.

Both women face shoplifting and child abuse charges.

It was unclear whether they had attorneys.
