DOT Adding a Lane to Northbound I-25 from Comanche to Jefferson

A construction project that will add a lane to northbound Interstate 25 from Comanche to Jefferson is scheduled to start tonight, the state Department of Transportation reports.

The $1.8 million, 60-calendar day lane expansion/reconstruction work is being done by Mountain States Constructors.

The work will force some nighttime lane closures, when needed, and the northbound I-25 frontage road will be reduced to one lane in the area, according to the DOT.

“I-25 traffic should be aware of activity through the work zone but not be distracted by the work,” DOT district spokesman Phil Gallegos said in a news release.

Here’s the immediate scheduled:

• Starting at 9 p.m. today and Monday, and lasting until 5 a.m. the following days, northbound I-25 from Comanche to Jefferson will have the two right lanes closed so barrier wall can be put up. The northbound I-25 frontage road will be reduced to one lane.

• And starting Monday and until further notice, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, the northbound I-25 frontage road will be reduced to one lane.

In other road-related news, the city’s project to build a bike/pedestrian bridge over I-25 just south of Osuna/San Mateo will result in some road closures this week.

• From 9 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. the next day, the southbound I-25 frontage road from Osuna to Jefferson will be closed. Drivers are advised to use Jefferson as a detour route.

• From 9 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. the following day, southbound I-25 from San Antonio to Jefferson and the southbound I-25 frontage road from Osuna to Jefferson will be closed. Again, use Jefferson as a detour route.

• From 9 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. the following day, northbound I-25 from Jefferson to Osuna and the northbound I-25 frontage road from Jefferson to Osuna will be closed. Drivers are advised to take Jefferson to Mcleod and then north on San Mateo as a detour.
