‘Longmire’ Debuts to Record Numbers

It looks like New Mexico has another ratings winner.

A&E’s “Longmire” debuted on Sunday with 4.1 million total viewers — setting a record for the cable network.

The show also launched as cable’s top new scripted drama of 2012 among total viewers and adults 25-54 with 1.4 million in the demo tuning in.

Based on the Walt Longmire mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson, “Longmire” stars Australian actor Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyo.

The show also stars Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman and newcomer Adam Bartley. The series is filmed at Greer Garson Studios in Santa Fe.

In comparison to other TV shows shot in New Mexico — such as AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and USA Network’s “In Plain Sight” — “Longmire” is on par with both of the critically acclaimed series.

New episodes of “Longmire” will continue to air at 8 p.m. Sundays on A&E.
