American Crossroads, a Super PAC, is hitting the airwaves in New Mexico today with a feel-good ad touting Republican Senate nominee Heather Wilson as “an independent voice for change.”
The ad comes just two days after New Mexico’s June 5 primary election. Wilson faces Democratic Rep. Martin Heinrich in the U.S. Senate general election.
The Crossroads spot, titled “Voice,” is scheduled to air on broadcast and cable TV in the state for the next two weeks and cost $265,000, according to the group. American Crossroads was founded by Karl Rove, former adviser to President George W. Bush.
Wilson, who served in the U.S. House from 1997-2009, is a former board member of the Crossroads GPS Super PAC, which is affiliated with American Crossroads. Wilson sat on the GPS board from Aug. 2010 until Feb. 2011, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission.
The Crossroads ad comes at the same time that a coalition of environmental groups is launching (scroll down in the story) a coordinated television, direct mail and phone canvassing effort aimed at electing Rep. Martin Heinrich, a Democrat who who will face off against Wilson in the fall general election. The environmental ads are scheduled to begin airing in New Mexico next week.
