Nibbles: The Barley Room Bar and Grill

I asked the advice of the bartender about which sandwich I should get for lunch – the Philly Cheese Steak or the Reuben? Definitely the Philly Cheese Steak, she said. I’m glad I followed her recommendation. It was a winner.

Served on a hoagie, the sandwich ($10) was jammed with grilled beef strips, red onions, mushrooms, red and green pepper strips, all under a blanket of melted Swiss cheese.

I was going to ask for a side of green chile but instead requested ketchup and A1 Steak Sauce because I wanted to do a taste comparison: Which half tasted better, with ketchup or steak sauce? I vote for the steak sauce. Big time.

The Barley Room Bar and Grill
LOCATION: 5200 Eubank NE at Spain (in The Promenade), 332-0800
HOURS: 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 11 a.m.-midnight Sundays

The side I got was the potato salad, which looked and tasted homemade.

I drank iced tea ($2), which was served in a very, very large glass.
