UPDATED: Bosque Brush Fire

A South Valley brush fire charred about four acres of the bosque on the west side of the river on Saturday, Bernalillo County spokesman Larry Gallegos said.

It was about 30 percent contained as of 10 p.m., officials reported.

The fire, south of Bridge Boulevard, burned mostly grassland, but torched some isolated trees and tree limbs on the ground, Gallegos said.

Albuquerque Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Romero said the fire was most active around 2 p.m.

AFD took over response command in the afternoon and planned on working through the night with the county and State Forestry on the fire.

No structures had been affected, and no injuries had been reported. Evacuations had not been ordered.

The cause is under investigation.

Residents reported seeing a plume of smoke rise from the bosque area about 11 a.m.
