SANTA FE (AP) — State agencies are providing free well water testing for Santa Fe County residents with homes not served by a public water utility.
The Environment Department and Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department will offer the tests Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Cerrillos Hills State Park Visitors Center in Cerrillos.
State officials say residents should collect a water sample in a glass or plastic container of at least a quart. The sample should be taken before any treatment by a softener or filtering system.
Residents should provide the depth of the well, whether steel or another material is used for the well casing, the depth to reach water in the well and the distance of the well from the nearest septic tank or leach field.
