It’s been 17 years, but alternative band Wilco will perform a show in Santa Fe.
The Chicago-based band will perform at the Santa Fe Opera Theater on Sept. 18.
Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22 at the Santa Fe Opera box office at 505-986-5900, 800-280-4565 or www.santafeopera.org. Prices are $47, $42, $30 plus applicable service charges.
Wilco last performed in Santa Fe at the defunct Club Alegria in 1995 on their first ever U.S. tour. The band was set to return in 2004 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center but canceled due to lead singer Jeff Tweedy entering rehab for his painkiller addiction. His battle was captured in the documentary, “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart.”
The band is touring in support of its Grammy-nominated album, “The Whole Love.”
Tweedy formed Wilco in the mid-1990s.
“The Whole Love” is the third album by the band’s current lineup, which solidified in 2004 when guitarist Nels Cline and guitarist/keyboardist Patrick Sansone joined Tweedy, founding bassist John Stirratt, drummer Glenn Kotche and keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen. Together, they released “Sky Blue Sky” in 2007 and the Grammy-nominated “Wilco (The Album)” in 2009.
Wilco has won two Grammys for its 2004 release “A Ghost is Born.”
Tweedy also picked up a Grammy in 2010 for producing Mavis Staples’ “You Are Not Alone.”
Jonathan Richman is slated to open for the Grammy-winning band.
