ABQ ‘Career Criminal’ Gets 15 Years

John Anzures, 38, of Albuquerque, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to 15 years in prison for being an armed career criminal in possession of a firearm, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

The case against Anzures was brought as part of a federal anti-violence initiative targeting the “worst of the worst” offenders under federal firearms and narcotics laws, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales said in the release.

Anzures was charged in a Dec. 28, 2010 indictment alleging that he unlawfully possessed a firearm in Bernalillo County on Nov. 10, 2010 at a time he was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition because of his previous felony convictions, federal prosecutors said.

He pleaded guilty to the indictment on April 11, 2012, the release said.
