Nibbles: Kelly’s Brewpub

My wife, Kim, and I ended up at this restaurant because our first choice was a restaurant that was noisy and had a long line of people waiting to be seated. We decided on Kelly’s because it was nearby and we could watch the Yankees-Red Sox game on a TV monitor.

We split two vegetarian dishes. One was the grilled giant portabello mushroom sandwich ($8.95) that was swimming in sautéed onions and melted cheese. It came with a side of sweet potato fries. The sandwich was to die for. The fries were pretty darn good, too.

The other was a plate piled high with quinoa, an ancient South American grain ($6.95), with many lima beans and black beans inside the mound. It came with salsa and chips. Since the quinoa was bland, I poured some of the salsa over it. Whoa, that was hot salsa, so hot that I started to hiccup. Then I added salt and pepper to the quinoa. That made a difference. So did a cup of sour cream that waitress brought. After my wife and I finished off the quinoa, the waitress suggested sprinkling feta cheese over it for the next time.
