SANTA FE – An auction in Santa Fe next month will feature a dozen of Kit Carson’s personal items.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reported that the “Auction of Santa Fe at the Hilton Hotel” will feature Carson’s pack saddles, bridles, and his flintlock pistol, issued for use in the Mexican-American War. Also up for auction will be his personal document bag, used to carry items to presidents and generals.
Bob Nelson, owner of Manitou Galleries in Santa Fe and Cheyenne, Wyo., the sponsor of the auction, said most of the Carson items were obtained from an informal museum that Ralph Meyers’ son, Ouray Meyers, had in the basement of his art gallery in Taos.
The auction will feature more than 600 items, including 300 American Indian collectibles.
