Art Show Helps Girls’ Nonprofit

The 40th annual Girls Inc. Arts and Crafts Show — expected to attract about 25,000 people — will be held Saturday and Sunday on the Plaza and adjacent North Lincoln Avenue.

This art show is the largest single fundraising event for Girls Inc. of Santa Fe, which provides programming to build self-esteem, foster creativity and promote critical thinking skills for girls.

Visitors to the Plaza will find a wide range of work by artists and crafts people. Sixty percent of the artists in the show are from New Mexico and nearly half are from Santa Fe.

“Our goal is to promote this unique event to the local community, increasing the number of New Mexicans that attend the show,” said Melissa Glick, Girls Inc.’s development and events coordinator.

There’s a new food court at this year’s event, in partnership with the High Desert Food Group and featuring eight food trucks offering barbecue, wood-fired pizza, Hawaiian shaved ice, New Mexican fare, burgers and more.

There will also be several snack booths in front of the Plaza bandstand with roasted nuts, local ice cream, aqua frescas, candy apples and kettle corn. Good Water Co. will provide free chilled water at the corner of Lincoln and Palace.

Other activities include a “kids’ creation station.”

The art show runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. There’s no admission charge.
