New Mexico Couple Facing Child Abuse Charges

A Chaparral man are his common-law wife are facing charges after New Mexico authorities say two children in their home tested positive for cocaine.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials say 29-year-old Enrique Gutierrez and 41-year-old Dometilla Rosales each face two counts of negligent child abuse.

Investigators say the case involves an 11-year old boy that is Rosales’ child from a previous relationship and a 2-year-old girl that is the couple’s child.

Gutierrez was arrested Friday afternoon and booked into the county Detention Center on a $30,000 cash bond.

Because Rosales is cooperating with authorities, investigators say a warrant for her arrest will be waived.

Child Protective Services referred the case to the sheriff’s office after receiving a tip that the couple was using drugs in the home with children present.
