DEMING (AP) — Federal authorities in New Mexico say two illegal immigrants have been rescued east of the Florida Mountains near Deming.
The Las Cruces Border Patrol Station was notified by Luna County authorities of an emergency distress call from two people lost and in need of medical assistance Monday. The signal off their cellphone helped authorities pinpoint their location.
Agents from stations in Las Cruces, Santa Teresa and Deming were dispatched to the area along with air and ground rescue teams.
After a three-hour search, two Mexican men were located in an area between Deming and Las Cruces known as “Rattlesnake Peak.”
Authorities say the two men — ages 29 and 51 — are receiving treatment for severe dehydration at a Deming hospital.
Their names, hometowns and conditions haven’t been released yet.
