Rio Rancho Public Schools Board vice president Craig Brandt said in an email to the Journal that he will resign his post during the board’s Monday meeting. Brandt’s term expires in February of 2013. In his email, Brandt said it was necessary to quit because his daughter in-law has applied for a position at one of the schools.

“This is the right thing to do,” he said. “And I have always tried to do the right thing for my community and my family.”

Brandt was elected to the board in 2009, beating out four other opponents. He is currently the Republican candidate for State Senate District 40.
