Grisham to Resign from County Commission

Michelle Lujan Grisham

Bernalillo County Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham plans to resign to focus on her campaign for Congress.

Grisham, the Democratic candidate in the 1st Congressional District, represents a chunk of the North Valley and West Side on the County Commission.

She intends to resign at noon Sept. 7.

Her departure from the commission will shake up not only that group, but the City Council as well. Councilor Debbie O’Malley is expected to seek Grisham’s seat on the commission.

Gov. Susana Martinez, a Republican, will appoint a replacement for Grisham for the rest of the year. The Democratic and Republican parties will nominate candidates for the Nov. 6 ballot, with the winner taking office in January.

Her resignation letter is below.
