A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 7 miles south of Socorro Monday night claimed the life of a 42-year-old El Paso woman who was pronounced dead at the scene, State Police Lt. Robert McDonald said in a news release.
Police arrived around 10:30 p.m. to find that a 2002 Cadillac that was traveling northbound in southbound lanes had struck a 2003 Honda, then came to rest in the middle of the southbound lanes where it was struck by a 1996 GMC van, the news release said.
The woman who died was identified as Bertha Sanchez, a passenger in the Honda, police said.
Three other passengers in the Honda were taken to Socorro General Hospital, and a fourth person in the Honda was flowen to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque and was reported in critical/stable condition, according to the release.
Two passengers in the GMC van were taken to El Paso with minor injuries, the release said.
According to McDonald, the driver of the Cadillac, 21-year-old Reyes Duran of Socorro, was taken to Socorro General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Duran was then arrested by State Police on a charge of driving while intoxicated, police said.
