“The Avengers” dominated the box office earlier this summer — and Marvel is hoping to end the summer on a high note.

“The Avengers,” which was filmed in New Mexico, heads back to the theaters for a limited run before coming out on DVD on Sept. 25.
The third biggest movie of all time will expand to 1,700 theaters weekend — including showtimes at Century Rio 24 and Cottonwood in Albuquerque, Storyteller Dreamcatcher in Espanola and Regal 14 in Santa Fe.
The movie was filmed in New Mexico and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Hemsworth. It has taken in nearly $620 million in the domestic box office and is $40 million shy from being the No. 2 all-time grossing movie. James Cameron holds the records for No. 1 and No. 2 with “Avatar” and “Titanic.”
The DVD release for “The Avengers” is slated for Sept. 25 release.
