The U.S. Marshals Service in the District of New Mexico raised $100,600 in less than 30 minutes at an auction of seized vehicles on Friday, the marshals service said in a news release.
The 15 vehicles seized by the FBI and DEA because of illegal activities were auctioned off at Dugger Services in Albuquerque by Apple Towing Company, the release said.
A 1987 Cadillac sedan sold for just $300, and a 2003 Dodge Dakota went for $1,400 in what the marshals service called the “steals of the day.”
A 2007 Harley Davidson Fat Boy with very low mileage was sold for $11,100, and a 2004 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer Truck brought $29,000, and seven of the items went for less than $2,000, according to the release.
Proceeds from the auctions are used to compensate crime victims and to fund law enforcement initiatives, and funds are often shared with the law enforcement agencies that participated in investigations leading to the forfeiture of assets, the release said.
