Two Injured in Morning I-40 Crash

Two people had to be extricated from their vehicles and hospitalized after a multi-car crash this morning on Interstate 40 near 12th Street, a fire official said.

“We were able to extricate two people who were trapped, who were then taken to University Hospital in serious but stable condition,” said Albuquerque Fire Department Capt. Jason Garcia.

Garcia said the accident occurred at about 6:30 a.m., and backed up traffic for several hours.

Garcia said he had no information on the victims’ identities, how many cars were involved, or what caused the crash.

He added that traffic returned to normal by about 10:30 a.m.
