Carlena Martin, 25, a member of the Navajo Nation who lives in Crownpoint, pleaded guilty in federal court in Albuquerque Tuesday morning to one count of child abuse, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Martin admitted abusing her 4-month-old child on April 23, 2012, becoming intoxicated and repeatedly dropping the child while carrying him outside her home on the Navajo Indian Reservation, prosecutors said.
Under terms of a plea agreement, Martin will be sentenced to three years of probation, the release said.
She remains free on conditions of release under supervision of pretrial services pending her sentencing hearing, which has not been scheduled yet.
