Remembering 9/11 Video

On Tuesday, dozens of Albuquerque firefighters wearing full bunker gear climbed 110 stories of the Bank of Albuquerque building Downtown — the same height as the Twin Towers.

The firefighters were dispatched from Station 5 at 9:03 a.m. (the time when the second tower was hit 11 years ago) and responded to the bank building, at 201 3rd St. NW, to begin the climb. Every year since 2003, the climb has been a remembrance and a way to honor the 343 New York firefighters who died in the line of duty responding to the horrific events of Sept. 11, 2001.

AFD was the first department in the nation to organize and complete the climb.
