Wanted Mesquite Woman Surrenders

LAS CRUCES (AP) — Deputies in Dona Ana County say a Mesquite woman wanted after her year-old son tested positive for cocaine has surrendered to authorities.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kelly Jameson said Wednesday that 30-year-old Crystal Giron saw news reports that a warrant had been issued for her arrest. She turned herself in at a sheriff’s substation.

Giron is charged with child abuse.

Investigators say they were tipped off that the toddler had possibly been exposed to cocaine while Giron was abusing drugs.

The boy is now in the custody of his biological father.
