A proposal at City Hall is aimed at making it clear that the launch and landing of hot-air balloons is permissible under the zoning code.
The three-paragraph change is sponsored by City Councilor Michael Cook, who wasn’t immediately available for comment Tuesday.
The proposal would make it clear that the “launching and landing of hot air balloons” is allowed in all zoning districts in Albuquerque. Separate land-use documents, such as sector development plans, could still prohibit balloons, and bans on trespassing would apply, too.
The proposal was introduced at Monday’s council meeting and referred to the city’s Environmental Planning Commission for further consideration.
