Nibbles: Prickly Pear Restaurant

New Mexico has a flavor all its own, and the Prickly Pear Restaurant on San Mateo captures that flavor and serves it back to the Duke City. An open and inviting atmosphere provides a welcoming dining experience. The attentive, friendly staff serves all that is needed to enjoy your meal without being obtrusive. But the most enjoyable part of the meal is the food, and it is served New Mexico style here.

All salsas and chiles are made fresh each day, and done so by a native of Albuquerque. I had the cheese enchiladas with Christmas chile and eggs ($9.50). The red chile was the best I had ever tasted, with a mild spiciness mixed perfectly with sweetness. Of course, the hallmark of any good New Mexican restaurant is how it makes its chile rellenos. Just the right amount of cheese, breading fried to perfection, and served with a side of rice and beans ($11.50). And the end to any good meal in Albuquerque is the sopaipillas.

If you are looking for an authentic New Mexico dining experience, you need look no further than the Prickly Pear.
