City Employee Leaves Job After Husband Wins Powerball

Well, that didn’t take long.

Santa Fe Public Information Administrator Carla Lopez put in her last day as a city employee earlier this week.

Lopez, as you may recall from recent Journal articles, is married to former state District Judge Michael Vigil — the man who, a day after he retired earlier this month, won a $1 million Powerball prize.

On Tuesday night, Lopez got a send-off from the City Council, who proclaimed Oct. 30 as “Carla Lopez Day.”

“I loved working here. It was a great job. But I have a million other things to do,” Lopez said.

Here’s a picture, courtesy of Journal photographer Eddie Moore, of Lopez and Santa Fe Mayor David Coss at last night’s City Council meeting.
