On the recommendation of a colleague, I tried the mutton stew for lunch at the travel center.
I opted for the 32-ounce Styrofoam container ($5.29), the larger of the two sizes. I sat at a table at the adjoining Arby’s.
The stew was in a very large pot in the to-go area of the travel center, and it’s self-service from a pot that kept the food heat-hot. I scooped out chunks of mutton and thick slices of carrot and bite-size chunks of potatoes and celery.

The mutton was well-cooked and tasty, but the liquid was very hot. I had to blow on each spoonful to cool off the mutton and veggies before biting into them.
I ate nearly all of the stew but left some of the liquid.
I was told that the stew is prepared in the cafe, which is on the north side of the travel center.
I also ordered a Pueblo oven bread ($6.99) to eat with the stew. The bread crust has strips of cheese baked into it. It, too, was good.
