Woman With Kids In Car Charged

An Albuquerque woman was charged with DWI, careless driving and two counts of child abuse after getting into a car accident involving two teenage children.

The crash was reported at 7:17 p.m. Friday on Interstate 25 near Santa Fe, according to a Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department report.

Deputies alleged 38-year-old Heather Rowley was driving north and trying to pass another vehicle. “For reasons unknown,” according to the report, Rowley lost control of her vehicle and hit another.

The report states Rowley was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and too intoxicated to drive. A 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were passengers in a vehicle, and the report said they were put in danger because of Rowley’s impaired driving.

People in the other vehicle involved were treated at the scene for minor injuries and declined further medical help.

Rowley was booked into the Santa Fe County Jail, according to an online inmate database, where she remained Saturday.

Messages left with Sheriff Robert Garcia seeking further comment were not returned Saturday.
