A WIDER UNSER GETS OFFICIAL: On Tuesday, Mayor Richard Berry will “cut the ribbon on the Unser widening from Black Arroyo to McMahon.”
Mark Motsko, who handles information for Albuquerque’s Department of Municipal Development, says crews “widened the roadway and added curb and gutter, sidewalk, trails and striping and signage.”
Now drivers on that stretch have four travel lanes, as well as storm drainage, curb and gutter, on-street bike lanes and a multi-use trail. Motsko has said previously that crews also “installed the backbone infrastructure for a traffic signal at Night Whisper to save time and money when the need for a signal is warranted in the future.”
BUT THE WIDENING WORK ISN’T DONE YET: The last segment of Unser in the northwest quadrant to be widened to two lanes in each direction is from McMahon to Bandelier.
Motsko says that project “is almost ready to bid (and) should go to construction early 2013.”
In addition to adding a driving lane, that project will also include on-street bike lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks and continue the multi-use trail.
Motsko has said “this will create a full four-lane Unser Boulevard from the Sandoval/Bernalillo County line to Paradise Boulevard.”
