All-district teams have been chosen in boys and girls soccer for the 2012 season. Here are the first- and second-team choices from schools in the West Side Journal Area:
Boys
ATRISCO HERITAGE: The Jaguars had junior defender Gil Muñoz along with senior midfielders Brian Montes and David Perez on the first team in District 5-5A.
Senior midfielder Erik Espindola, senior defender Martin Burciaga and junior forward Jose Luis Sandoval were named to the second team.
BOSQUE SCHOOL: Class 1A-3A state runner-up Bosque School had three players on District 4′s first team in senior goalkeeper Nathan Kamm, and senior forwards Andres Rivera and Felipe Galvis. Galvis was one of three players of the year in the district.
On the second team were junior defender Evan Hicks, senior midfielder Greg Trost and freshman forward Dillon Chant.
CIBOLA: Cibola had two first-team choices in District 1-5A — senior forward Zach Atkerson and freshman defender Joe Ortiz.
Senior goalkeeper Sixto Lopez, senior defender Caleb Glines and senior forward Matt Smith were on the second team.
RIO GRANDE: The Ravens didn’t have anyone on 5A’s first team or second team. Sophomore defender Gerald Lopez, senior midfielder Javier Zazueta and freshman forward Edwardo Medrano were honorable mentions.
ST. PIUS: In District 5-4A, the Sartans had first-team selections in junior defender Alex Arvizo, senior midfielders William Sedas and Alfredo Candia, and junior forward David Gros.
Senior midfielder Erick Hernandez, senior defender Brian Billstrand and senior goalkeeper Joe Sanchez were on the second team.
VALLEY: Sophomore defender Grant Rowe was the Vikings’ lone first-team representative from 5-5A. On the second team were junior defender Dominic Sanchez, sophomore midfielder Carlos Alonso and junior forward Adan Torres.
VOLCANO VISTA: From 1-5A, first-team choices were goalkeeper Nic Jetter, senior midfielder Justin Cuadra, senior forward Charlie Harmon, sophomore defender Parker Conaway, sophomore midfielder C.J. Slough and sophomore forward Teriq Canales.
Sophomore defender Josh Cooper and sophomore forward Alec Cravens were on the second team.
WEST MESA: Senior forward Erick Avila was on 5-5A’s first team. Mustangs on the second team were senior goalkeeper Jordy Machado, senior defender Adrian Varela, senior midfielder Cesar Perez and junior forward James Rodriguez.
Girls
ATRISCO HERITAGE: The Jaguars had two first-team players from District 5-5A in sophomore forward Samantha Garcia and sophomore midfielder Casandra Vasquez. Sophomore defender Yulissa Melero was on the second team.
BOSQUE SCHOOL: In District 4 of Class 1A-3A, the Bobcats put senior midfielder Annie Allison and junior forward Sarah Moulton on the first team. Senior midfielder Nina Raby, sophomore defender Laura Trost and freshman forward Alex Cruz were selected to the second team.
CIBOLA: The District 1-5A champion Cougars put three players on the first team — junior defenders Jordan Morris and Lindsey Nials, and junior forward Aspen Carpentier.
Senior goalkeeper Hannah Waufle, junior defenders Monica Gebler and Susan Griffo, junior midfielder Lindsey Evans and sophomore forward Renee Brinson were on the second team.
RIO GRANDE: Junior defender Tania Fahey, a co-player of the year in 5-5A, was the Ravens’ only first-team choice. Senior midfielder Gabby Chavez was on the second team.
ST. PIUS: In 5-4A, the Sartans had four players on the first team in senior midfielders Gabrielle Campbell and Adrianna Naranjo, junior defender Macie Clemens and sophomore defender Amanda Hernandez. Campbell was one of three players of the year in 5-4A.
On the second team were junior defender Darion Faulkner and sophomore defender Dominique Rivera. David Sullivan was the district’s co-coach of the year.
VALLEY: Senior defender Taylor Betzen, freshman midfielder Marissa Griego and freshman forward Yasmine Mijia were on the first team in 5-5A. Betzen was 5-5A’s other co-player of the year.
Second-teamers were senior goalkeeper Josephine Kozlowski, sophomore defender Desirae Morales and senior forwards Annie Garcia and Alexa Padilla.
The Vikings’ Greg Perez was 5-5A coach of the year.
VOLCANO VISTA: The Class 5A state runner-up Hawks had junior defender Hannah Fenske, senior midfielder Ruth Bruciaga, senior forward Hope Cruz and junior forward Claire Lynch on 1-5A’s first team.
Junior defender Shelby Thomas, sophomore midfielder Caity Acosta and sophomore defender Alyssa Candelaria were on the second team.
WEST MESA: In 5-5A, senior forward Victoria Urrutia and sophomore midfielder Maria Braco were on the first team. Senior defender Lourdes Pienzda and senior forward Jalyn Espinosa were on the second team.
