UPDATED: Man in Critical Condition after Possible Hit and Run; 98th Street NB Closed

10:00 p.m. – Northbound 98th street will likely stay closed for another hour as APD’s Fatal Team continues its investigation into a hit-and-run pedestrian crash, according to APD spokesman Robert Gibbs.

A suspected hit-and-run pedestrian crash on northbound 98th Street has left a man in critical condition, and an Albuquerque Fire Department engine almost ran the man over as he lay unconscious in the street, bleeding from his head.

APD’s Fatal Team has been called out to investigate the crash, which APD spokesman Robert Gibbs said happened around 6 p.m. in front of the Flying J truck stop on 98th Street. Once fire crews found the man and determined the nature of his injuries, he was immediately stabilized and transported.

Officers also noticed vehicle debris around the pedestrian, which Gibbs said suggests the vehicle that struck him fled the scene.

Northbound 98th Street will be closed for several hours as crews investigate.
