Arrest in Club Shooting

Albuquerque police have arrested a fugitive suspected of shooting a bystander in the back on Saturday Nov. 24 at the Fantasy World Nightclub.

Robert Alexander, 36, was taken into custody by the APD Gang Unit following an undercover investigation, according to a police e-mail advisory.

Alexander tried to run, but he was captured and later booked on charges in connection with the shooting of a man who has not been identified, but who was described as being a bystander during the incident. Alexander was booked also on a felony warrant from Arkansas.

Alexander was identified as a convicted felon not permitted to carry a firearm. He reportedly moved to Albuquerque just a few weeks before the shooing.

Gang Unit Detectives investigated, after finding that Alexander is a documented gang member.

Gang detectives have also identified two other men involved in the shooting outside the nightclub, and say they will also face charges.

On the night of the shooting, a fight broke out between several people at the club. As security officers escorted the individuals out of the club, Alexander retrieved a handgun and began firing outside the business, shooting the bystander in the back, according to the advisory. The shooting victim is reported to “be OK and recovering from the injury,” the advisory said.

Alexander is being held at the Metropolitan Detention “Center on a $75,000 cash or surety bond.
