I have a story in today’s paper about a draft study that looks at the feasibility of a publicly owned Santa Fe electric utility. The report, by Santa Fe-based MSA Capital Partners, working under a city-county contract awarded to non-profit New Energy Economy, says a city and county-owned utility could mean greater renewable energy use, lower customer bills and more jobs.
The report compared three scenarios —a publicly owned local utility that purchases its power, a publicly owned utility that, after several years, generates some or most of its own power, and the continuance of the “status quo,” where PNM continues to provide electricity to most of Santa Fe County.
For your perusal, here are MSA Capital Partner’s executive summary and report. Keep in mind that this is a draft and, as such, it’s a bit messy. The city/county Energy Task Force is scheduled to review the report Dec. 18.
UPDATED to include a cleaner copy of the executive summary and report.
