Journal, Rio Rancho Observer Announce New Affiliation

The parent companies of the Albuquerque Journal and Rio Rancho Observer have announced a partnership that will mean a closer working relationship between two of New Mexico’s leading newspapers.

The newsrooms and editorial pages of the two newspapers will remain separate and independent, although cooperative efforts in news-gathering will enhance the ability of both the Journal and the Observer to serve their readers.

The announcement was made Friday by Journal Publishing Company President and CEO William P. Lang and Rio Rancho Observer Publisher Rockford M. Hayes.

“We both serve the community area and look forward to working with Rocky Hayes and his talented staff,” Lang said. “The real winners here are the readers.”

Both men also said the partnership creates new advertising opportunities for area businesses, in reach and efficiency.

The two companies in coming months will develop a strategic plan to implement the cooperative agreement, including publication schedules and digital products.

“By partnering, the Observer and Journal both become stronger and better able to serve the community,” they said in a joint statement.
